MULTI-DIMENSIONAL TIME BOX is going to be delayed a few weeks since I’ve been dealing with what you’ll read below. Stay tuned!
Did you grab your copy of NIGHT OF THE COMET TPB from Source Point Press yesterday? Oh, you didn’t? Because your shop didn’t get any? Okay, um, let me check on that. Well, seems like Source Point decided to tell us the day before release that the book was canceled.
I had a feeling this was on its way to happening since we got no real promotion from Source Point and every email I sent them about the book went unanswered.
Crazy that after the interview in PREVIEWS, plus the insanely talented artists who supported our book and gave us great pull quotes, the book’s orders were too low to justify continuing.
On the one hand, I understand. If there appears to be no interest in a book, then I get not going forward with it. But, we could have been told the book was in trouble and been properly communicated with.
We’re cutting our losses with Source Point on this one. I get that our book might be more niche than we thought. What can I say, Attila and I got big dreams. We’re going to run a new campaign for the oversized hardcover we’ve been trying to get made. We’ll take our time as we have some other cool things planned, but getting this book back on track and in our hands is going to be the best way forward.
A lot has been made of working with a publisher vs self publishing. My experience with Source Point on TALES FROM THE DEAD ASTRONAUT was great. They picked up our wacky book and got it in stores and to a hell of a lot more people than would have come from a Kickstarter. But, the money we made in royalties didn’t amount to much. Jorge and I worked together to do the book and split the royalties but neither of us came out even for the time/work we put into the book.
For NIGHT OF THE COMET to make us even we would have needed to get 5k worth of orders. Shame we couldn’t get even close to one zero less of that number. I do believe that if someone saw this book on a shelf, picked it out, and opened it, they would be struck by it and take it with them to register.
With self-pbulsihing we don’t need to have near that level of success. Selling 250 copies would put us right where 5k copies would have. Selling 500 copies would be an amazing success.
So, let’s try it again.
Let’s stick to doing it on our own and seeing how far we can extend our reach.
Keep up the work, Jonathan! Every day is another reminder of how much you can achieve. I believe in the work you’re putting out!
